A WEEK after returning from Los Angeles, California where he received a lifetime achievement award, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is set to travel outside the country again, this time to participate in an economic forum. Rama will be attending the 8th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, a port city in the far east region of Russia, on Sept. 10-13, 2023. Before going to the forum, the local executive will be participating in the League of Cities of the Philippines's board meeting in Metro Manila this week. He will travel to Vladivostok after the meeting. Rama was invited to the economic forum by Anton Kobyakov, adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin and executive secretary of the forum's organizing committee. The forum will be held in the Far Eastern Federal University campus. It is "a key international platform for establishing and strengthening ties within the Russian and global investment communities, and for comprehensive expert evaluation of the economic potential of the Russian Far East, the investment opportunities it offers, and business conditions within advanced special economic zones," according to the EEF. Putin established the EEF in 2015 "to support the economic development of Russia's Far East and to expand international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region," the EEF said. Kobyakov told Rama in the letter that there will be business sessions and round-table discussions.
